In 1963, I made these three sketches in the very center of Jerusalem standing on the Israeli side and looking east towards the dividing line. The large structures in the road are barriers to protect people in the street from the occasional Arab sniper. Beyond the barriers is a no-mans land with lots of barbed wire.
These barriers were removed after the unification of the city in 1967. The idea of "Land for Peace" assumes that if the border is re-established again in the same place there will be no need to rebuild these barriers because there will be peace.
